The Movement Lab @ NOMA before construction started.

It has been a couple months since my last post. I do apologize for that but there is a good reason. My dance colleague, Martha Brim and I are opening a new space. We had been looking for a while but in October we signed the lease on this fabulous space (pictured above) in the North Main (NOMA)/Cottontown District of Columbia, SC.

We are calling our new venture the Movement Lab @ NOMA. It is a really unique space - especially in Columbia, SC. Our mission is:

Our core purpose is to foster holistic well-being and creative

expression through movement, appealing to individuals seeking

balance in their physical and mental health.

We create a supportive environment where fitness enthusiasts,

artists, and individuals looking for alternative wellness practices

can thrive together.

We will be offering classes for adults in many styles of dance, for those who have never danced, used to dance or still dance, and also Pilates mat, various Yoga styles, and other mindful movement practices.

Another unique feature will be the weekend workshops and master classes in all types of wellness and movement practices for people looking to dive a little deeper in to a particular subject. We already have a Dance Movement Therapist and a Qi Gong Master (similar to Tai Chi) who are planning to be a part of this. We also will have other types of community events and informal dance, music and theatre performances.

Additionally, we will have a massage therapist who is also a professional dancer on site and offer one on one private Pilates training. We are planning to start offering boutique style Reformer Classes a few months after opening. With just 6 reformers, classes can be more focused on individual needs while providing appropriate challenges to help people really progress in their training.

What does this mean for Hemisphere Dancer Wellness and Travel?

It means I have a home for my Pilates training practice and one where I can expand in to reformer classes. It also means I can finally start offering the virtual Pilates mat classes that I have wanted to get going.

The most important part is that Hemisphere Dancer Wellness and Travel will focus much more on the retreat aspect of the business, while the Movement Lab takes over more of the Pilates aspect. Hemisphere Dancer Wellness and Travel will also be offering an online wellness course that will start up later in 2026.

I have had to postpone upcoming retreats with the construction going on and all of the work getting the new space ready to open but I remain committed to having retreats start up again soon!

We look forward to welcoming you there soon. Even if you are not local to Columbia, SC you will be able to join us with virtual offerings.

Please reach out and let me know any questions you might have about the new space!
